First Cert
That Asks You To Fight.

S(3) is the PvP combat gate for Squadron pilots. Until now, your certs have been about setup and mechanics. S(3) is the first cert that asks you to fight.

The standard is specific: hold 450m engagement range without jousting, execute J-turns correctly, neutralize the pip, and read extensions. A kill is not a pass condition.

Certification Goal

Minimum Standard for PvP Ship Combat.

Member can hold 450m engagement range, neutralize the pip, identify extension attempts, and perform J-turns without jousting. In a squad battle they can correctly identify and call out rabbiting attempts.

Expected Outcome

Passing Members Can…

Member demonstrates the minimum competency needed for a PvP group. Completing this cert means they can compete against roughly 80% of the Star Citizen player base.

Three Things To Know

Range Control

Consistent 300–600m. No jousting. No running. Bubble maintained throughout.

J-Turns & Merging

Clean J-turn execution during repositioning. Correctly merging into engagements without jousting.

Extension Reads

What Passing Unlocks
Next Step

Utility Pilot + Fleet Pilot

Pass & Fail

What Gets You Through

Pass

  • 300–600m range held consistently
  • Pip neutralized correctly throughout
  • Merges executed correctly
  • Opponent's state described accurately in real-time
  • Rabbiting identified and called out

Watch Out For

  • Consistently jousts (passes through engagement zone)
  • Cannot perform J-turn
  • Does not neutralize or engage within range window
  • Runs away instead of repositioning
Preparation

Before You Book The Eval

01
Jousting is the most common failure — fix it first

Practice staying in the 300–600m window in solo Arena Commander before your eval.

02
J-turns are muscle memory — drill them solo

Not something to figure out during your eval. They must be automatic before you book.

03
Call out extensions — the evaluator is listening

If your opponent is pulling away and not shooting back, say it out loud. That's the skill being tested.
