Beyond Just
Being Good.

Marine 1 Star is where we start moving into tactics. This is where you start learning to be an asset to the team — not just a good individual fighter. This cert establishes your individual tactical foundation, the skills you'll use in every combat engagement for the rest of your time in the org.

It's split into three tactical domains: medic (keeping teammates alive), CQB (close-quarters fighting), and open-area (outdoor and vehicle combat).

Certification Goal

Setting Group Tactical Standards.

The member should be able to operate without direction using medic tactics, CQB tactics, and open-area tactics. Note: this is not mil-sim. Real-world tactics do not apply here.

Expected Outcome

Passing Members Can…

Member is more of an asset to the org. They know the tactics and can anticipate using them without being directed to.

Three Things To Know

Medic Tactics

Tractor beam in combat, successful combat revive, toxicity management (detox application). You know the basics from L(1) — now apply them under fire.

CQB Tactics

Corner slicing, Point & Security, peak advantage usage, CQB meta gear. Evaluator watches for positional discipline throughout.

Open Area Tactics

Bound and overwatch, vehicle/ship defense awareness, long-range meta application. Standing still in the open is an instant fail.

What Passing Unlocks
Next Step

Marine ★★

Marine ★★ raises the bar to 2:1 KR with 30% headshots and introduces flank and trap team tactics requiring a partner.

Medic

Open Area
Pass & Fail

What Gets You Through

Pass

  • All three domains passed to evaluator's satisfaction
  • Member demonstrates understanding of WHY each mechanic exists — not just mechanical execution

Watch Out For

  • Medic: fails to attempt revive when safe to do so
  • CQB: consistently trades at a disadvantage with no adjustment
  • Open Area: ignores cover in open terrain
Preparation

Before You Book The Eval

01
The tractor beam in combat is counterintuitive — practice before eval

Most members forget it entirely under pressure. Run tractor beam drills specifically.

02
CQB: never trade straight-up when you have positional advantage

Use the peak and retreat cycle. Trading from an equal position is a failure indicator.

03
Open terrain: always moving or covering

Standing still in the open during your eval is an instant fail. No exceptions.
